Mourinho Hints at Rooney Move; Fabregas Wants Barcelona Stay

Jose Mourinho claims similarities with Wayne Rooney while Fabregas has quashed any rumours linking him with a move away from Barcelona. We bring you the transfer round-up for the day.

Mourinho Opens Chelsea Gates for Wayne Rooney

Switching from Red to Blue?
The ‘Happy One’ was quizzed about the possibility of signing Wayne Rooney in his first press conference upon returning to Chelsea and immediately, in his own quirky way, Mourinho claimed that Rooney doesn’t need to move for money; instead, he must find a club where he will get the happiness and drive to improve as a player.
Jose described that Rooney has qualities much like himself and that he fancies a character like the Manchester United No.10.

“I like him,” Mourinho said. “He is at a fantastic age. He has maturity, big experience and is still young. It’s up to him and what he wants, what makes him happy.”
THT Verdict: Ever since David Moyes took over, one of the names that consistently crops up on the exodus list is that of Wayne Rooney’s. Although till date we haven’t seen any club show a concrete interest in the player, Mourinho’s words might just have begun a run of mind games to prize the Evertonian away from Chelsea’s rivals. Rooney was hidden behind shadows for pretty much the entire duration of the 2012/13 season, fueling the possibility of him leaving Old Trafford. With Chelsea suffering striker woes of their own, a move for Rooney will definitely be on the cards. The question then is, would he want to stay in England upon leaving Manchester?

Are Chelsea FC in the Lewandowski picture?

-->

Robert Lewandowski is a name that's been mooted more than once as a potential backup option for Chelsea should they fail to land Edinson Cavanithis summer. If you weren't familiar with the Polish striker last year, one would have to assume you are now. It's difficult to score four goals in a Champions League semifinal against Real Madrid without being noticed.
Lewandowski has one year to go on his contract with Borussia Dortmund, and he's never showed any signs of being interested in an extension. The hot rumour is that he's already agreed to join Bayern Munich, should the Bavarian giants manage to land him this summer. But BVB, who've already lost Mario Gotze to Bayern this year, are apparently drawing a line in the sand when it comes to the poaching of their talent:

Chelsea FC – Jose Mourinho is Out For Revenge

Revenge is a dish best served cold, and Jose Mourinho is out to prove to Real Madrid, Manchester United and Manchester City that he’s still the best football manager in the world, if he ever was, by bringing back Chelsea to top of the pecking order, something even winning the Champions League couldn’t do to the club.
Even if he has to break every financial fair play rule in the book, it doesn’t matter. Rumors don’t always equal the truth, but it seems there’s quite an expensive and expansive shopping list that comes with the Portuguese manager, who says he isn’t about trashing his former place of business, but has already taken shots at Cristiano Ronaldo before his official introduction at Chelsea.

Mourinho can say he had Chelsea on his mind all he likes, but the truth is there had to be some part of him wishing Manchester United would pick up the phone and call him to be the one who replaced Alex Ferguson. But at Old Trafford, the way Mourinho carried and carries himself isn’t what they envision when they think of the future of the club.
All this “friendly” Mourinho version, showing empathy towards the Premier League and what not only became evident once he left the league. The problems he’s stirred up at Real Madrid and in the Spanish La Liga in general weren’t the cup of tea for a club that prefers industrial silence as they do their job, even if it means picking a manager (David Moyes) that isn’t as good as others.
Manchester City? Mourinho is probably eating himself from the inside that someone like Manuel Pellegrini got the job. Mourinho came to Real Madrid after Pellegrini, and did a slightly better job in the league (one championship is three years isn’t a success, regardless of the spin Mourinho supporters put on it, or the claim that he disrupted Barcelona dominance) than him, while taking the team to three Champions League finals. Much better than before, but not enough.

-->

Last season Mourinho said that he would never manage a team like Malaga, because he needs money to make his plans work. I’m not sure if that was a dig at Pellegrini or Malaga themselves, but it actually shows Mourinho might not be such a great manager if huge spending isn’t involved. Back at Chelsea, and it looks like he’s trying to abuse the power given to him (in charge of the transfer policy) before the July transfer window even opens.
Soon, the feuds will come. Mourinho isn’t a different man, he’s simply in a surrounding he feels more comfortable with. He needs to find himself and his team an enemy because that’s his way of motivating players to achieve. That’s his way of staying in the headlines, and making sure he’s the man on the front page, and not his players, for better and for worse. Jose Mourinho is out to prove these last three years weren’t the beginning of his decline, but only a bad chapter that wasn’t his fault. It probably had something to do with a conspiracy.

Chelsea FC think of Brazilian striker Hulk

The Brazilian international striker Zenit St Petersburg said Thursday that Chelsea, now led by Jose Mourinho, had expressed an interest in it.

-->

"If I said that there is nothing, I would be lying," said Hulk during a press conference in Goiania, where the Brazilian team trains before facing France on Sunday in game preparation Confederations Cup (15-30 June).

According to the British Daily Mirror, Chelsea have offered 41 million euros to Zenit.

The Brazilian was bought 26 years at FC Porto in the summer of 2012 for € 60 million. According to the Daily Mirror, the Zenit could be ready to negotiate after a difficult first season in Russia (7 goals in 18 league games).
